Damn and blast Ideal World !!!!!
Those freaking moron's have in their "wisdom" decided to cut Glenda's Sunday show down to 1 and half hours from 2pm till 3.30pm and then slot in preview for another bliddy crap day.... um maybe that's supposed to be craft day.. but hey I think crap is more prolly the more accurate description!
Oh and Glenda has been warned to expect to be cut down to just an hour - ie ending at 3pm "if sales are slow" - the crap-day preveiw will last for an hour if that happens!
Sorry I can't type any more I need to go to my corner and swear a lot so I can let of steam!

The stamps on the show are some new ones - er you can see a couple of samples on my blog cuz I got them at the end of October when I was down at the Glimmer Mist Workshop - they are Autumn Hedgerow and Autumn Table and they are lovely stamps. Also the Fairy stamps will be on along with the Peacock CD and 2 of the Peacock themeplates - Fan and Ladies. There are some multi-buy offers too...... oh and the dragons are on also.

I think the problem with Glenda is that she is such a complete, consummate and highly talented professional that they can't cope with it. I've been running through some recordings over the last few days, and Stephanie Weightman in particular gives the impression of being distinctly uncomfortable watching Glenda do things she'll never be able to do. It's far easier to patronise some of the newer demonstrators - I sometimes wonder how many of them are part of their design team as opposed to fully blown craft experts. There's also the possibility that Glenda is too nice and courteous a person - what she really needs to do is a Joanna Sheen - has anyone ever seen any of HER shows cut? The only other crafter whose shows are all too regularly cut is Christine Bell (Princess Pinflair) who I think is too timid to stand up to their nonsense.
And finally, there's also, perhaps, the possibility that they're making her suffer for making them allow these presenterless segments on her recent C& C shows - an absolute joy to watch but doing nothing for presenter egos!!
Sorry, but this caught me in a week when I'm having another battle with IW, whose new home-based Customer Service is ABSOLUTELY no better than it was before!!

the multibuy is 141332 but its not available to purchase until 2pm on Sunday. I suppose they don't want it to sell out before then! They are gorgeous stamps and I've been promising myself one of the Artylicious CDs, the Peacock summer party duo are on sale but again not until Sunday. Luckily, I'll be watching and have full control of the remote!

I've just seen the email posted about the show on Graphicus' website, let's hope enough of us tune in and buy things to keep the show going as long as possible. Just had a quick look ahead to the craft day listings, they must have loads of CC mouse stamps and those big metallic kits from last weekend as they are listed among other things. Nothing that I'm interested in, thank goodness.

Sorry, Phree. His name is definitely spelt that way so I assumed that the format would be the same as AF and the others. Of course he only started on 3 November so maybe they're keeping him email-free to let him settle in before the public onslaught hits!! (Either that or their expert IT team has forgotten how to set up a new email!!!!!) Can't tell they've tee'd me off, can you!?!?!?

Does anyone know what Glenda's shows on C & C are called? Every time there is a stamping show, it always seems to be either Jayne Nestorenko or Joanna Sheen, I've only every seen Glenda on by accident. I'll definately watch on Sunday but otherwise would like to tape some older shows.

By chance i was looking at the EPG for C&C last night and noticed a show on at 5am today called "Seasons Greetings" with Glenda, so I recorded it and it is Glenda and Adrian showing their SG CD and other stuff. I've been watching it while ironing and doing other stuff, but keep having to stop to watch as it is so good. These people are true artists and it is a pleasure to watch them, you can learn so much about ideas and technique. I suspect I'll watch it again and make sure that I record as many of their shows as I can. Their designs are just beautiful and in a class of their own.
Even though I don't have any of her stuff, I really enjoy watching Glenda's shows. She really is an artist. However, I think she should tell them to stuff it.
Marie
15-11-2008, 12:46 PM
But then where else would we get to see her? Much as IW/C&C sometimes frustrates me, it is a good shop window for craft manufacturers and artists to show their creations.

I was being unselfish and looking at it from Glenda's point of view. I don't take kindly to being messed around and it's the second time that Ideal World/C&C have messed Glenda around in the last couple of months. Sooooo, if I were her I'd tell them to stick it!
Marie

I agree, she definately shouldn't have to put up with that treatment. I suppose that she has to balance up whether it's worth putting up with it for the benefit of the business. I bet that a lot of guests on the shopping channels are willing to put up with a bit of hassle if it means getting their products on air. I imagine that the best we can do to support her is to make sure that we tune in if we can and place our orders while she's on air so that the powers-that-be at IW/C&C get the message!

It's still up on my EPG as Crafting with Rubber stamps from 2 - 4pm tomorrow, but the IW website is showing the programmes Marie mentioned. There's nothing on Glenda's blog - surely to goodness they couldn't have left any change so late that she was on her way down there? If so, I'm with Anne - I think she should tell them where to go in no uncertain terms. I'd like to take that Bamix and show people EXACTLY what it could grind up, and it wouldn't be coffee!
Marie

I agree entirely, it would be appalling treatment, it really is rude! I've just checked the EPG and that's changed now as well. I'm just hoping that at the very least they've rescheduled for Tuesday, at least it's only a couple of days away. Otherwise the only way we can protest is not to buy anything from IW/C&C and get it direct from Graphicus even if it is a little more expensive. But is that the best thing to do? If we don't support the products on IW/C&C, then they might stop stocking them altogether which would be a great shame. Anyway I'm going to email the IW studio and see if they can tell me when the show is being re-scheduled. I'll let you know if I get a reply!

The thing is, I'm sure there was something on her blog yesterday about the show being reduced, and now today it's not there. I can't believe the way that she's being treated by this two-bit shopping channel.

Just caught up with this thread, first of all I need to apologise cuz I think I have been typing Create and Craft when if in fact the show was supposed to be scheduled for regular 2pm - 4pm live craft slot we get most Sundays on IW.
Regarding the missing post on Glenda's blog I am pretty certain I can guess where it's gone - I have, with the wisdom of hindsite, thought that the commment I posted in response to Glenda's announcement that her show was being cut down from the full 2 hours was perhaps somewhat over critical of IW - or lets Glenda's blog, given she has a business relationship with IW, was not the right venue for me to say what I said. I suspect I may not have been the only "Glenda Fan" who posted a comment that perhaps allowed a little too much frustration to show on Glenda's blog and she may therefore have felt obliged to pull the whole post as it could get her into an unpleasant situation with IW if she allowed it to remain.
Been at the NEC today, left home at 4:30, so no idea what is happening - I guess we wait see tomorrow - tune in to IW @ 2pm and find out what actually is on air.

Oh dear, that's a shame. The last sentence of Glenda's post is cause for concern. It sounds like she might not be on Ideal World again. I tend to agree as I would buy direct from Glenda and not through Ideal World anyway. Ideal World are being a bit silly as we dont alwyas want the out and stick stuff they seem to favour at the moment some crafters want to get inspiration from experts like Glenda. I am so bored with so many of the shows just now that I switch off after about three minutes.

It's gone beyond swearing, it's now reached the stage of action, my action will be to write and let them know that they have lost my custom. Oh and the letter will be a reasonable and literate explanation of WHY they are loosing my custom.

I guess the bottom line is this - MONEY. My freind Jess commented to me today that she had noticed how many products now seem to be "owned" as it were by IW/C&C - she said she had recently seen a new CD with the design element done by Nancy Watt but the CD itself is marketed with the C&C name to it and she felt when she saw that this was a type of product she was seeing more and more of. So my guess is that if IW are starting to own the products (and bear in mind they have the Create & Craft Business side to this also where by they are now supplying craft retailers) then look out independant suppliers such as Glenda as there is probably more margin for IW on the products they own and they will be less and less interested in showing us products brought by people such as Glenda.
All I can say in respect of Jess comments is Gawd help us if IW end up owning everything they sell cuz crafting on TV is about to go down hill big time - I guess I will be watching a lot more of QVC from now on as I am most unimpressed with the road IW seem to be following. I certainly shall NOT be voting for them in the best TV craft channel this year - errr the only vote they deserve is channel doing the most to restrict craft to a narrow field of possibilities. At least QVC seem to be trying once again to broaden the horizons for crafters, not limit them.

Phree that is a couple of good points, I was told by a retailer that Ideal World work on a sale or return basis and demand so much stock which is not sold then the supplier is stuck with them to sell where they can this can damage a small business and some dont want to take the chance with them. Hence the sale of stuff on ebay at times. The stuff they sell on the extraveganza must be some of their own products.
Phree
16-11-2008, 07:02 PM
Yes turquoise, I have heard that IW works on a sale or return basis too. This must be pretty tough on small family run craft companies of which there are many, Glenda obviously, then there is Joanna Sheen who also obviously takes pride in the fact her business is very much a personal one run by her, then I can recall the Cupcake crafting lady emphasizing that her CD's are very much a family business, and Sara from Crafter's Companion has also said the same thing about her business - I recall her recently stating how her dad was up all night to run the stamp making machines to get extra stock of stamps that were selling out too fast on a 4 day deal or a blockbuster deal - think it might have been when they launched the Cute Companion Christmas themed ones.
Small companies could find themselvse struggling with some sticky cash flow problems if a product does not sell quite as well as anticipated and they have to take back an enexpectedly large amount of stock.

Well other than the occasional thing I get from the clearance hours, I rarely get anything from C&C nowadays. I haven't wanted anything from this weekend or last weekends products. I do think that a lot of their big kits are good value for money but too big for me in general. At least now I know where to look for Glenda's stuff and the other private manufacturers. Its a shame really though, I still think it is a beneficial 2-way arrangement for smaller businesses to be able to show their products on national TV and for IW, it gives them a lot of variety in the products available.

I think as we become more experienced then we seek out the products elsewhere and those new to crafting usually buy from Ideal World as I did and it is a shame to deny them access to some experts. We are also forgetting those not on the web and have to rely on shows such as Create and Craft to show new and varied products which they will buy via phone lines. As I was without internet for a while I had to depend on create and craft and QVC to get some goods.
Marie
17-11-2008, 12:03 PM
Also like others I got into crafting by watching the shows on IW and QVC and still enjoy them. I think that we all have to remember that for most of the guests on these channels, having the opportunity to show their products on national TV is generally a very good thing, especially when you employ a number of people and have to pay their wages even if sales are slow. I would never have known about Glenda, Anna Griffin and others without their shows so even if I moan about the channels now and again, I do enjoy watching QVC and IW/C&C. I do hope that Glenda is able to sort thing out with IW asap, I know that I can buy her goods direct from her website but actually I would have thought it better to get them from IW to make sure that teh sales figures are good enough for them to keep inviting her back.
