View Full Version : Glimmer with Glenda

I Sky+'d it & have now watched it - & loved it :D For anyone who likes a bit of Glenda & haven't see it yet, they've done the same as before (Stampbord Sensations I think) with pre-recorded demos by Glenda that are shown during the show so you don't have to deal with Martyn jabbering on so much.
As per usual there are some stunning samples - & some fab demos.
I now really really really want the tree stamps, but I think I may need to find a more economic way of creating the backgrounds. As much as I liked them, $30 for 6 Glimmer Mists is a little scary...
I think the only disappointment with the show was that they didn't actually show the different mask things properly. And I would have liked to have seen a little more of the new flower themeplates...which I may well do if I decide to ask for one for Christmas :D
BTW, just before the BB, there was a thread about the new flower plates that kind of match a previous plate which I kept trying to post to about a pre-record that I'd seen recently but just kept getting the Database problem. It must have been quite an old show with the original floral plate (I think billed as the first A4 plate from Elusive Images) & couple of others - can't remember the correct names, but something like Flora & Fauna & Background textures. The reason I kept trying to (unsuccessfully) draw people's attention to it was cos it had some of the most amazing examples of what you can do with a stamp I've seen - including a stunning silk scarf.

Welly I know exactly the show you mean, it's the one where Glenda does a beautiful a simple monochromatic card made with the Morning Glory stamp in blue ink... she simply stamps in and uses a waterbrush to pull colour in from the stamped lines - adding some extra colour from her ink pad as required. She also makes a fab glitter card with one of the big flowers and there are samples of some work done with the texture stamps and polymer clay...... OH GOD . .. I am so badly addicted I can almost recite the script from the show ;) That show as the first time they brought an A4 plate to air I beleive.
The themplates in question are indeed "Fauna and Flora", the background one is called "Texture Blocks" and finally the original big flowers one is simply called exactly that.... "Big Flowers". For anyone who has bought either or both of Ruby Tuesday and Diamante Delights then Big Flowers is certainly worth adding to the collection as it will work very well with the leaves and stalk elements on the 2 new ones.
As for todays show.....well what can I say.... Glenda struting her stuff ..... craft heaven or what!!!
Urm, I know it's horse for course, and I did enjoy Glenda's show, but I know for a fact that I would never make that sort of a card:o I'm just not into "messy" and I don't like the spotting that you get from spritzing card.....(right oh, I'm off to Coventry now, lol). Still, Phree, when you get your kit, I bet it will work beautifully with all that Stardream you now own and what about using it with the Chameleon....

If you have perfect pearls you can shake them up with water and spray them or if you have twinkling H2O's or the cheaper version, you can make up a wet mix, dip an (OLD lol) toothbrush in it and then spatter by scraping along the bristles with a knife blade or your thumb.

Me too! Especially the spots from spritzing. Still enjoy watching Glenda though as she is a mistress of her craft.

I loved the show too. Would have to save up though:eek::eek: The products are not too bad on their own, but if you want the lot (and I wanted the lot!!) then that is expensive. I do love her stamps and keep an eye on Ebay but so few turn up. I did manage to get her Christmas CD from last year recently for a reasonable £13. and find it stunning.

LOL dips, there is no need for you to go to Coventry.... just go and wash your mouth out with soap :p
Seriously tho, I know not everyone will find Glenda's style of card making to their taste. It would be a much less interesting world if we did all like the same things. Beleive me Dips I have already been playing with the pearlescent card.... it works really well with those inky messy techniques you dislike :D ..... the inks colour it and the pearlescence still shine thru......mmmmmm lovely stuff !!!!

I am with you on this one too dips!
Don't like to get too messy or dirty with inks and have a strong aversion to glitter because it gets everywhere.
I do like most of Glenda's techniques and may get the glimmer screens at some point to use with a stippling brush.
BTW they have some glimmer mist type sprays in QVC clearance for a better price.

That was what I was thinking too Gill - the screen designs looked great from the little glimpses shown. Mind you I don't actually have a stippling brush & I'm still annoyed about QVC cancelling my order for the stylus tool kit the other month - I so need to get me one of those...

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!! An ENORMOUS box arrived today with all my fab goodies....... they have all been lovingly stroked, but I forgot one essential - Kling-On!
Glenda told us at the workshop in March that she now prefers Ez-Mount and that is what Graphicus now sell so she no longer does the stamps pre-mounted. She didn't say why, but I am guessing it's because Ez-Mount is not quite the right shape as it is based on American Letter size as opposed to A4 and this means you have an overhang at the top and bottom - which if you are not careful you can find that the stamps themselves are overhanging the edge of the Ez-Mount sheet.
Anyhow Saturdays are never a good day for me to be cutting out rubber so I guess I will have to wait till tomorrow - I think I have 1 spare sheet of Kling-on in my stash somewhere, but I will need to buy some more. I may go with the Ez-mount tho as Glenda is right about it clinging better to the Acrylic blocks.

I started some backing paper tonight..... discovered that sponging on blue inks then spritzing with the glimmer mists was fab....then cocked it up by trying to over stamp using a snowflake stamp and White Brilliance ink then heat embossing with holographic sparkle powder.... the snowflake bit didn't show up as a snowflake - the White Brilliance is not opaque enough and that is the only white ink I own. I shall have to try this again think tho with white EP, or maybe not - not sure I like the idea so much now the more I think about it.
However as I had only embossed a couple of the snowflakes before deciding it was a bad idea I have salvaged a fairly decent size piece of my card and am planning on turning it into a background for a snowman card instead..... it's now stamped with smaller snowflakes using a Adirondack Dye in ink in Denim which is quite a dark blue. Heading to bed in a bit so the plan is to finish the card tomorrow - will post a piccy... tho it might be hard to get the shimmer to show - we shall see - maybe if the sun comes out I can get enough light on the card for the camera to catch some of the shimmer effect.

Flowerpot, could you get the same effect as you can with the fusible webbing, if you used the stick and stamp spray from Crafters companion? As it's already sticky wondered if you could just add embossing powder to it and heat set......... hang on will try it for myself and let you know, lol

K, I just had a go, and although I think I needed to spray more sparsely (that sounds funny like saying more less) as it was too densely covered, I think it did kinda work, but oh the smell whilst it was heat embossing was really noxious.

Sorry only just read your post Loobyloo's. Glade you've kinda sorted it as I've now idea with sprays as I don't use them. In the demo the lady used fusible webbing so I just went on ebay & brought some. You'll have to post a pic of your efforts using the spray...l'd love to see how it looks :)
