View Full Version : The Joy of Flex
I have had some time now to play with my Flexmarkers and I like them more and more. It’s quite a different feel from using Promarkers and needs a bit of getting used to. My tip for anyone who is just starting with them would be to prime them well first. The brush tips take a lot of priming so make sure you have a good flow of colour by scribbling with them quite hard on some scrap. This does not hurt the nib. The chisel tip will give you the full strength colour for comparisons although I’ve found it gives a slightly stronger layer of colour even after the brush tip is fully primed. When using the brush tip lay down the lightest possible layer of colour first barely touching the paper and then build up. It’s tempting to put the same pressure on as you would with a Promarker and while that works fine it makes the ink flow more and that can end up oversaturating the work.. The soft colours are really soft and can also be used to lift and blend the stronger colours like a blender pen.
I’m not the world’s best colourer-iner (technical craft term) but I’ve done some examples so you can get an idea.
I have coloured 2 die-cut houses with the new colours that will be exclusive to Flexmarkers:. I’ve just coloured each area with a single flat colour with a little self shading on the bushes.
Set 1 Set 2
Roof: Soft Mauve, Roof Glacier Blue,
Chimney: Pale Blossom Chimney Blue grey 1
Door: Pink Lavender Door Soft Aqua
Bushes: Light Fawn Bushes: Honeydew
Wall: Muted Pink Wall: Top Pale Citrus, Bottom Lemon Chiffon
I've also done these littles stamped images of houses incorporating Promarker Ivory and Sandstone.
Lastly I’ve been experimenting with skin tones so these are my babies coloured using colours from all four of the currenly available sets .
Hi
I contacted Cowling and Wilcox and they dont think they will be stocking them, not enough demand.
I think Joanna Sheen and Polkadoodles will be stocking them and you can buy from Letraset direct and ,of course, there is always C & C!

These are lovely Janet - very delicate colouring, I tried to colour an image last night and went to bed in a huff cos it looked carp. Got up this morning and it looked much better - still not great but better.
Lovely! It's always great to see new products used in 'real life'. Sadly that usually means those things I had on my "don't need" pile get moved to "buy soon" list..... :)

Just cottoned onto the title of the thread te he!
Thanks for letting us now how you are getting on with them. I only have a limited selection of promarkers, keeping in with the theme of the thread I am a semi-virgin with alcohol pens! Do you own any copics, & are they as good? I've always fancied the copics, but the price has always put me off!
Great colouring by the way!

I bought a few Copic Ciaos in the soft light colours because there weren't many in Promarkers and they seem to work best with stamps. They have a brush tip and I really like them but I like the Flex brush tip more. They all combine really well so why not buy one in a colour you don't already have in Promarkers and see how you get on. Haven't tried the Sketch but people seem to really love them.

Should have said before that the little houses and the baby stamp are both from the small single acrylic stamps range by KARS.
Thanks to evryone too for the kind comments.
