Love this machine and also the idea of saving what looks like about £1,000 by not having a built in computer but by connecting it to your lap top or PC (bigger screen for designing too). BUT ... only two programmes and those one at 10 p.m. last night and the other after freeview viewers have lost the programmes. Grrrr.

It's on again at 6pm tonight GP. I'll watch now as you've piqued my interest!

I watched it last night, now lusting after it, the guest was excellent although a bit nervous.

Thanks Dips but no 6 p.m. programmes on Freeview. Will try to remember to watch on my laptop. I think that was the first time for the guest (sorry I didn't catch your name) but I agree she was very good. Being with Debbie helps and I certainly felt they were answering my questions.

Pretty sure her name was Jane GP.

It's disappeared from the schedule.

I think they sold out from reading Debbies forum.

New shows listed for next Wednesday 25th April, 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
It may be the same model, only says Futura.

I have to own up to now having one of these machines purchased from a retailer a month ago not C & C/I.W.

Magic groups on FB to help, it was only after I found them that I felt confident enough to go ahead (no I'm not rich but I don't drive, drink, buy clothes, makeup or go out, LOL).

Thank you Jan I will put these to record. I cannot (that's right brain, cannot) justify buying an embroidery machine but I love to watch and who knows ... one day. Could you explain Magic groups? You did make me smile about not being rich, etc. There is no man I am aquainted with who would feel the need to justify their hobby. Stand up for the sisterhood Jan and enjoy your machine.

Penny :-)

Thank you Penny, LOL.

Groups on FB that are very very helpful, that's where the Magic bit comes in, sorry if I confused you, LOL.
Had I not come across the groups I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge!
Since belonging to the two groups there have been some fatal links on there, LOL.
www.emblibrary.com is one example!

I also don't have holidays, 20 years since I have.

Oh, Jan, what a lovely treat, I hope you enjoy. I'm sure you will get hours and years of pleasure from your machine. Yes, you are lucky that you have been able to buy it, and from your comments, it's clear that you appreciate that many others may not currently be in that position. However, I don't think anyone on here would resent your purchase but just wish you joy and pleasure in your hobby. I'd love to see some pictures of any projects you do (and, without wanting to speak for her, I bet Penny would like a peek at your projects too)!

Thanks Dips,

Haven't done a great deal with the beast yet, (and it is a beast, once it's out of the box and on a table it's pretty big, can't even get the box in the loft it's too massive to go through the opening so it's in the garage).
Did a couple of dummy runs, got bits to sort out with tension at the mo, had a few loops on the top. Passed the second dummy run on to JSC as she'd watched it embroider, wasn't perfect but I'll get there with the help of the Futura groups on FB.
Still need to get a lot of supplies too, extra needles, stabilizer, threads and such, really hoping to do some Free Standing Lace soon.

On the first item I did I got a grubby mark, seems the oil was dropping onto the fabric and once I realised I gave it a wipe to get the excess away with a bit of kitchen towel, that seemed to remedy that.

I hope whoever demos on Wednesday does something a bit off the beaten track as well as basic stuff.

You can see the grubbiness on the right side.

That's so lovely (and I couldn't see any grubbiness at all)! You're certainly going to have years of enjoyment doing lots of differrent projects on this beastie!

I'm not sure if you can see this without becoming a member of Debbie's forum but there are some lovely people over there who have embroidery machines. One lady in particular makes the most gorgeous freestanding lace things. Have a look at http://www.serifwebresources.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1652&forumid=194553 - truly inspiring.

Machine is now posted on IW website, not the XL 400, different model and it's a quid shy of £1500.00, yikes.
