The Beeb announced their first ever office Doctor Who convention to be held in March next year...Hubby spotted it in the monthly mag yesterday (while waiting for a hospital proceedure) & decided we should go. Yes I know it's horribly over-priced at £99 a ticket (& no concessions!) for one day (don't even want to think about the travel costs & accomodation ), but it's so long since we did a convention (either attending or organising) & the kids have been desperate to go to one having heard our tales of past conventions that hubby kind of just said Sod It & gave me his CC to pay last night after he got home from hospital. Matt Smith has been confirmed, which is the biggest reason why we're we're making the effort; the kids absolutely adore him - we'll hopefully get a bit closer to him than at the Proms last year.

We were planning a trip to DisneyLand Paris, but we're spending the money on this instead. It's actually being held over the weekend of DD's birthday, but so long as she gets to see or even meet Amy Pond she doesn't care that they won't be having a party with their mates. DS's birthday is the Thursday just before the weekend & mine is a weekend before, so it's a whole combined birthday thing for us all.

Can't believe how excited I feel about it just for me - big sad fan gurl that I am LOL Given the choice between Mickey & Friends or the chance to meet Matt Smith & co, I know what I want to do LOL

Yay!

Kids were made up when we told them this morning. I wanted to keep it a bit of a secret for a bit longer, maybe tell them Christmas Day or something, but DS was reading the mag before school, spotted the ad & marched into the kitchen to show me & ask if we could go "I know the answer's no though" he added straight away. He's so used to us saying we can't go to places or buy things cos we don't have the money bless him, he didn't even dream that it'd be a yes. I told him to go & ask daddy - but he wouldn't, he sent me instead, so we decided we'd tell thim now.

It sounds brilliant!! I enjoy Doctor Who and think Matt Smith is an amazing actor. I can't begin to imagine how excited the kids must be as well!!! Look forward to hearing all about it.

Be interesting to see how it fares against the ones that have been running for years organised by fans....
It seems very pricey the ones I've helped out at were £150.00 for the fri evening till Sunday evening.

What a thrill Welly. I hope you all have a fabulous time. I know my Ems would love to be there with you, but she would want Ten to be there too!

I remember the first ones we organised were £30 for 2 days! As we got bigger I think the most we ever charged was £40 for both days. And every single penny raised after costs & guest fees were paid went to charity. We even used to register ourselves - apart from anything else, it got money in the pot for printing flyers & getting ads in the Monthly.

I completely forgot; it's not actually the first ever BBC DW convention - they did the 20th Anniversary one at Longleat. I couldn't get to that (too young, no-one to get there with & no money). Hubby also didn't get to Longleat, so he says this is in compensation LOL I just hope it's better organised than Longleat & that the stewards don't act like the Gestapo - all the 'official' tickets to get an autograph or a photograph sold out on the first day the tickets were available (we didn't even get half a look in at those) & the website has strict instructions about not being able to take photos if you're getting an autograph & no personal photos to be taken if you've paid for the offical photo opp. Hate conventions with strong arm tactics; if the guests were happy to mingle, we always let it happen. Good grief, half the guests would end up in the bar later, happily chatting away with the attendees...
