Stephanie said she admires Margaret Thatcher the most. Should she have said that? aFTER All, politics is personal and you can alienate those that diaagree.
everyone is entiltles to their opinion, but I don't think a craft channel is the place for politics. Does anyone agree?

I can't imagine in what context she said that - it just reinforces to me my personal opinion of Stephanie.

Um - I didn't see the show in question & therefore don't know the context this was said in, but plenty of people admire Thatch for her strength & determination & amazingly forthright personality, even if they didn't agree with her politics. Seeing as though IW are always so careful about not promoting anything other than themselves in case they have to pay royalties - they can't even sing Happy Birthday & I really don't know how many times I've heard the likes of Nigel say "you know that TV programme, we can't say it but the one where..." or "other TV programmes are available" or whatever - I can't quite believe that Steph was trying to be political

You can say that you admire Margaret Thatcher without saying you agree or disagree with her politics. I think she was an amazing lady for her strengh and determination, this does not mean I am being political. I am sure that Stephanie will not have wanted to appear contraversial.

I would call Margaret Thatcher history now rather than politics!

I agree with Shelia on this one. I wonder if Stephanie had said "I admire Winston Churchill" would anyone think that was political.
I'm actually a big fan of Ann Widdecombe. :o

LOL Anne, she was very good with Louis Theroux, her heart is in the right place and she has very strong beliefs.
She talks a lot of sense imho.

LOL, personally I don't particulary admire any politicians - I tend to be of the option that when someone expresses a desire to enter politics then it should probably be considered as a strong indicator of their unsuitability for the job and they should be banned from ever standing for office;)

If you're including Ann Widdecombe in that statement, I shall get very cross. :D

You aren't alone in that thought Phree, sadly though cream as well as scum rise to the top. With any politician, they have to represent their constituants and at the same time not compromise their beliefs, nor bring their party into disrepute. I get the feeling we are told half truths most of the time.

Ann Widdecombe is the cream. :)

Well just to throw my pennysworth in, I was always taught that if you want to avoid arguements in life, you don't talk about money, politics or religion. Having said that, I think that everyone is entitled to their views and opinions and there are some very good politicians, of all persuasion. But I enjoy crafting as a way to relax so personally I'd prefer my crafting with chocolate, not politics.
Just my thoughts.

I totally agree with Marie.
Apart from the chocolate as I don't like it LOL.
You really don't want to get me started on politicians and the government!!

stephanie said this on an interview on the IW site. I';m not denying her right to free speech, but I just don't think a craft site is the place to air your views. we all have our own views, but their are many places where politics can be discussed. i'm not saying she is right or wrong, but once you know someones politics, yoiu can go right off them!

I've just read the Q&A on the IW site & I really don't read it as a statement of political sympathies:
Which living person do you most admire and why?
Margaret Thatcher – she was a strong leader in a man’s world.
If it was political, she'd say cos she agreed with Thatch's policies or somesuch...
As Phree says, if she'd have said Churchill, cos of his leadership during WW2, would anyone find that political?
Steph also mentions that she's like to travel back in time to the Elizabethan period - is this a religious statment?

I don't care for Stephanie but seems to me she was responding to a straightforward question and not expressing political preferences.
I personally would not decide to dislike someone just because they happened to support a different political party to me.
I can also admire qualities in politicians who do not belong to the particular party I support.

I didn't take it any way when I read it . It was just a question and she answered it. I doubt she meant anything political. If she had said mother Theresa I wouldn't have thought it suggested anything religious either.

I now have this bizzare image of Margaret Thatcher selling decoupage kits and SW running the country!:D
