View Full Version : Pen storage?

Actually this is something I'd like to buy rather than have already bought! Over this past year I've built up quite a collection of Sakura pens. At the minute they are all in their little boxes that they arrived in, but I'd love to have somehting like a proper pen caddy with holders so that I can slot them all for ease of use. A bit like an artist's brush holder. I've had a look on teh various sites on line for storage stuff but can't find anything. Anybody have any ideas?

The Works do a brush case and initially the holders are quite tight, sp could be used for pens. Believe that good art shops do pencil rolls that would be good for Sakura pens too, (Derwent make one for about £6).

I use a large pencil case that was reduced in price from Tesco  But then, I don't have a dedicated craft space to have a nice desk top type thing - or infact the storage space for a nice pen roll (no it's OK, put the violins away :D )

I like to keep mine accessible otherwise I wont use them. ATM I have them stored in one of these (http://scrappinwithsweetnothings.com/catalog.php?category=1) (better image than below)

and you can buy them reduced here (http://yourtouchofcraft.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=30&osCsid=fcc7f2fc632f5611f47e1217f09e8217)

I use some of those mini sets of plastic drawers, Poundland do them.
I've got one just for Sakura so the stardust, glaze, souffle etc are all kept separately.

Yes that's what I want to do, I'm thinking a pencil roll might be a good idea as I don't actually have any desktop space, everything is stored in my craft bags. I could get 3 separate pencil rolls for the different pen. I like the store'n'spin and plastic drawer ideas as well but might not be so easy to store away.

Diana I think you have the same storage I have - you must have been posting while I was taking pics!

Marie I think these are the same set of plastic draws Diana has - as they came from Poundland and are what I use to store my Sakura pens. The cost £1 for the set of 3, but the lid comes off and you can stack another set on top. Or you can break down the stacks, but if you do that you would not have enough lids. My stacks are actually double hight - 6 draws per stack and I have 3 stacks this tall - so 6 sets of Draws in each stack. They are really useful for all kinds of for Craft Storage. For the photos I broke one of my double high stacks down to it's original 3 draw tall size to you can see it as you would in the shop.

I like them because I keep one draw for each type of Sakura pen - in this photo I think you see Glaze, Souffle and the Metallics. When I want to use those pens I simply pull the draw containing the type of pen that I want right out of the stack and sit it on my desk like a pen tray. It's perhaps not quite as neat as having them all individually stored in individual slots in a tray or pen roll but as there are not that many colours to choose from (unlike the huge numbers of colours you get in ranges like the Prismacolour Pencils) it's easy enough to find the colours you want and very fast and easy to pull it out and then pop it away back in the draw unit when done.

got my roll case from asda Think it was about £3 and comes in a choice of pink or blue from the kids stationary section/ It holds my souffle pens in one section Startdust in another then gllaze in the 3rd and the 4th section has my decoupage scissors waterbrush quickie glue pen and clear glaze pen. It is probably the most organised part of my stash. No I tell a lie its the ONLY organised bit lol

I;ve got 6 sets of drawers very similar to these and a set of 20 smaller drawers but I am still so disorganised I can never find anything.Mind you dh reckons he is going to fit a tracking device to my reading glasses as I "lose" them. on average 10 times a day

I've got two of these stackers that I store mine in. Got them from Lakeland a long time ago - don't think they do them any more though.

Oh I'm glad others have sakura addictions, it was buying these pens earlier this year that got me on the slippery slope of becoming a crafter! They are SO NICE to play with!
Now those little drawer sets might fit into my file drawers.. could I ask nicely if someone could measure them??

Blimey Pam, I think you're showing off there with all those pens!! What a collection!! Makes me feel a lot less guilty about the 40 or so I own

My sakura's are in a clear really useful box (I think it's a 1.6l one) and I alternate which way the ends are facing depending on the type of sakura pen. To be honest it's still a bit of a fiddle but sitting sorting through them every now and then pacifies my "sorting" addiction.

I'm looking for a decent holder for my derwent coloursoft pencis at the moment, I bought the tin of 24 but I've bought about the same again of individual colours since and I would like them all in the same place - any suggestions?

Going off track a bit does anyone know how to get them going again if they stop working but have plenty of ink in them please?

Wow Pam thats really impressive I am ashamed to say mine is more of a chaos mountain that once used to be my kitchen table and dishevelled living room corner that constantly spills over into the rest of the room not matter how much I tidy it up.

Thanks Pam :) I love looking at those pics. It's that thing where were we all really want to have a good old nosey through each other's stash :D

I had a bit of a sakura disaster yesterday - I went to use my quickie glue pen & found it had leaked  Luckily it appears that the cap is definitely air tight cos it hadn't leaked into my tool box, just all inside the lid & it was still runny - I know this cos DS (who's calendar I was trying to stick back together) tipped it onto the dining table, just to check  After I cleaned it up I was able to see it was leaking from the 'neck' so I had to bin it.

Thanks Joanne, just purchased one off ebay! Just what I was after, i can put my pens on the table when I'm working but fold the caddy away when I'm not!
Actually I'm more excited about teh fact that I've got a new pen caddy coming than craft day.....well I'm sure the feeling will pass, but I'm chuffed that I've got it, lol!

hehe got my pen caddy today and I've just arranged all my pens in colour order, I feel like an 8 year old school girl with a new pencil case! It's a neat caddy though, comes in a massive clear plastic case so the pens won't fall out of the caddy and get lost!
Isn't it funny how something so simple can make us feel SO satisfied? lol!:D

Really glad you fund the right thing fr you, Marie. Quite coincidentally I ordered something to help me with the same storage issue. They came today from Storage 4 Crafts. They are the Really Useful Boxes inner trays:
http://www.storage4crafts.com/shopx/product.php?productid=664&cat=129&page=2

I have lined two of these along the back of my craft table. I've just got to finish playing with everything..sad, so sad.

I know Marie. If I knew then what I know now, while I was still working as a freelance writer, I'd have kitted this office out with custom made craft storage...as it is, the whole thing has evolved, is smart and tidy but not as wonderful as purpose built stuff.

Just as well I don't have any spare pennies to spend at the minute, but when I do......boy is my credit card going to take a beating!
I'm in love with a storage unit!
Oh lordie, i need to get out more....:D:D

They are the perfect size for Sakura pens Serena, unfortunately they are not quite long enough for most brush marker pens - Marveys, Tombows, Whispers etc.

And they are great for all kinds of other stuff - little packets of bling etc.
