Hi nearly Newbie here so be gentle with me!

Not sure where to post this, but this section is the most popular so there's a better chance of an answer.

I want a daylight lamp (a floor lamp) but can't justify the cost!

B&Q sell blue "daylight" bulbs but I don't know if they are the same thing and would give me real daylight if I fitted it into my ordinary floor lamp.

Has anyone done this? Do you think it would work?

Thanks

Linda

Hi EricsMum and welcome to the forum. I have a full spectrum daylight bulb in the main light fitment in the room I craft it. I also have a foldaway daylight lamp which I bought at a craft show for under £30. Recently my hubby noticed blue bulbs like the ones you are describing for sale in Tesco and he asked me if I thought they would do the same job. However when we checked the actual light output we could not find one that was 100 watt equivalent - they are much less bright. So before you try the blue blubs check what the actual light output is.

Does it really have to be a floor lamp? I found my folding craft light was fine. Sadly I can't recall the name of the company I got it from - they were at the craft show at the SECC and they go to the NEC too so maybe someone else on here can remember their name.

Hi EricsMum,
I've got a desk top daylight lamp - it's a bit like the lamp in the intro to Pixar films, a bendy tube with a shade on the end. It wasn't very expensive, I think I got it from the crafters book club. It throws out a good light, and I can move it to where I need it.
Sorry but I can't help you on whether these bulbs would work in your floor light though. :(

Hi EricsMum, welcome to CT.com

I have a foldaway lamp (like the one Phree has) and it has the name Siesta Frames on it. Googled the name and found the website. They do indeed have the foldaway lamps and floor standing lamps. They also have a range of bulbs, including a 100w blue bulb. Hope that helps.

I have the Ott-lite Tru Color Lamp. Its the same style as Docrafts are selling now. Not sure what bulb theirs has though. I bought it with some birthday money a few years back and its the best investiment I have ever made.

Eric's Mum - welcome - do you post on St.com?

I would love a lamp but can't find a reasonably priced one anywhere...

Hi Eric's mum and welcome.

I don't know much about the cost of daylight lamps but I had a leaflet from ru craft and it looks as though they are selling them at half price (not sure if this is a good deal though)

Can't do a link for the items for some reason. lol

The website is www.rucraft.co.uk and the codes for the ones on offer are
002947, 002964, 002597, 002596 and 002963. The prices range from £24.99 to £60.

I was thinking about getting this (http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/params.item.587384/walk.yah.UKCO-U383) one from QVC. It's about £30 when you add the P+P on. Most of the similar ones I've seen have been £50. Does anyone have it?

Do you have consumer product testing companies in the UK that rate these products and give the results to the public?

We most certainly do Glitter. This one charges for a monthly magazine but it is highly respected.

Also there is http://www.reevoo.com which is free but more limited. and despite being a .com it is a uk based review site.
