LOL - remember signing up for this fugly little swap :D. Well here is your first list. This list is the person to whom you should send that little package which contains your selection of stash you don't know what to do with and wonder why you ever bought it! Remember you are sending your package to the person named BELOW you on the list. The person named at the bottom should send their package to the person at the very top of the list.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR MADE CARD TO THIS PERSON - a second list will be published on the 8th of May for that :D

In case anyone forgot the details, here is the link to the original swap posting:

Just a quick question.

Does the person below you have to use a bit of EVERYTHING you send them, or can they pick what they want to use and what they want to leave off?

Need to know how evil I can be to tru-ella?

Of course there are seperate rules for MrsD she is only to send me lush prima silk flowers and any kind of blingy gem!!!:D:D:D and I will struggle to use them up for her:D

Looby

The card design is going to be up to the recipient of the things you send Looby, so they may choose what to use and what to ignore, however the finished card should be made mainly, but not necessarily exclusively with stash received for use in the swap.

Perhaps it would be easiest if I gave an example - so seeing as how ROC is threatening to send me some kind of decoupage let's use that as an example :

I would need to make the decoupage the main focal point of the card and try to include any other bits ROC sent, so for example she may have sent a sheet of background paper, then I ought to try to incorporate some of that into the card too. But what if ROC had also included a little bit of ribbon and it was not quite long enough for the card design I had come up with? In that case I don't think it would be unreasonable for me to substitute an alternate piece of ribbon from my stash. I could also add things in a small way, perhaps applying some glitter to the decoupaged image with something like Stickles Glitter glue from my stash, that would simply enhance the finished card without changing the fact it was made from the decoupage ROC sent.

And now I have a question of my own - What is TBZ Decoupage and someone PLEASE tell me it does not need loads of fiddly cutting out cuz I suck big time at cutting out - I hope it's die-cut!

Errr ROC surely you have some nice stamps and ink pads you could sent me instead :p

Mrs D
28-04-2009, 03:56 PM
OK, so on the basis of what Phree said about using the 'unwanted stuff' as the main part, if not all, of the card; I am assuming that you should really not try and add any of your own embellies or inks or bits. Can you confirm this please, Phree?

luvtocraft
28-04-2009, 04:40 PM
Off to dig out some stash now . IKWYM about instictively coordinating stuff its sort of in built isn't it.

Phree
28-04-2009, 04:44 PM
Hi Mrs D, OK the idea behind this swap was orginally fabyon's however what I was envisioning was that lots of us have stuff we bought in the heat of the moment and for a variety of reasons never used - maybe we went off it, or maybe its something we bought a while back and as our style changes and develops we can't imaging using it in the kind of cards we make now.

Anyhow as I see it the point of the swap is to try to put together a little kit of components that can be used to make a card. So, maybe some papers, a topper element such as decoupage, or a stamped image and then toss in a few embellies that we think might work with the other card ingredients. Ideally the receipent should try to make the card with the ingredients that they receive, however they should not feel limited to using ONLY those ingredients if they happen to have something in their stash that feel will add that extra touch that enhances the finished card. Likewise they are free to ignore some of the lesser ingredients - basically by that I mean things you tend to add as "trimming" to a card design - so ribbons, gems, brads, etc.

If a stamped images is sent there is no reason why the receipient could not colour it with the colouring medium of their choice. If something like decoupage was sent then the recipient could add glaze, glitter, flocking etc - what ever they had that they thought might enhance the decoupage.

Basically it's a fun swap, do what you think is the best you can do with the stash you receive, all that you really need to keep in mind is that the person who sent you the stash should be able to easily identify your card as having been made with the stash they sent even if you have not used all the bits they send and have added a few extra touches of your own.

OMG I'm laughing in my cuppa just a the thought of Phree stuck with decoupage sheets ! LOL

I should have added to my last post replying to Mrs D.

Nobody should be taking this swap to seriously - it's a bit of fun - so don't worry about it. Just try to use enough of the stash you receive that the card can be fairly described as having been made from what you receive, but feel free to add your own creativitiy into the mix too.

Oh and when selecting your stash...... think KARMA.......what goes around comes around..... so ROC beware when selelcting some decoupage cuz you never know what you might get from the person sending to you!!!! :p

That's what I was thinking Mrs D - I suppose it could also act as some kind of, um, 'proof' as to what was received & subsequently used to make a card IYSWIM. Not as a matter of trust, more curiosity. Oh dear. I don't think this is coming across well :o I'll shut up now having accused everyone of being on the fiddle...

I had been kicking myself for NOT including this idea in the swap instructions Mrs D and had not wanted to confuse anyone by suggesting it as an afterthought. But now that you have done so for me :D I am in total agreement - no pressure folks, please bear in mind that this is a FUN swap, but if you have time please add a "this is the stash I received" photo to the swap card received thread - but bear in mind you need to wait till your card's recipient has seen the card first.

LynneH
30-04-2009, 02:21 PM
Don't panic Mrs D it's just a hard A4 sized envelope. I didn't want such precious things to get bent. :D For some reason the post box near my house had a really small opening. It went in the one outside the Post Office with no trouble.

I know what you mean about it being hard to pick things. If you select things that match you are almost designing the card. So I have given you a couple of options that sort of mix and match.

I just received a jolly good question via PM from one of our swappers - the question was : Do I have to make a card with the stuff I received, or can I make some other crafty item"

It seems to me that as the title of our swap is "you do something with it", then that "something" is up to the maker. So if anyone out there is finding they are being inspired to make something that is not a card with the stash they received that's fine so long as you mainly stick to using what you were sent and any additonal bits from your own stash are basics such as glues or minor embellishments such as gems or ribbon etc.

just sprayed the computer screen with coffee

who'd a thunk that my innocent unused stash would have provoked such discussion....NOBA I bet that LOADS of you have got the item in question as well

Can I ask a sensible question? do we have to use everything that we were sent? My sender erred on the generous side!! I am happy (delighted) to use it all but i would need to make more than one item.

No, you don't have to use everything, but please do try to ensure that what you do create is mainly made using ingredients from the stash you received.

Invest in a Tim Holtz Texture hammer and apply vigorously until the skipping ceases and normal service is resumed.

That is so not true-ella! This is what I actually said

Your stash is on it's way. I know it's not in the 'rules' but I have given you a selection of things that really did ought to go together! However, if possible I would love you to use one item for definite which I have marked on the back 'USE ME PLEASE'.

Obviously you can choose not to, but I thought I would like to see what you could do with this particular thing cos when I bought it, it was an absolute must have (quite some years back now admittedly) and since I have wondered why, lol.

Actually I thought it's hideous colour was part of it's charm  and am intrigued though as to how you used it and apologise to the recepient of your card! :p;)

But I didn't break the rules MsPhree, honest I didn't. :D

what I was actually looking for was male and female thongs made from swizzles type sherbert sweets. When I was a kid you used to be able to get bracelets and necklaces of them. A website called Iwantoneofthose use to sell the underwear...I know, boggling already aren't we? anyway when I googled the knitted version came up...not quite a merkin, more of a merkin warmer perhaps?? :D

and now shall we all make an effort to heave ourselves out of the gutter?
No?
okay then on your own...merkin be it
