NERD ALERT!
Yes, I mean me.

Well I'm feeling very very sad. :(

It's over a week since the new Star Trek film came out and I still haven't been able to find a friend to go with. My sister is busy working and no-one else I know is into science fiction.

I already know the story, it's all over the fan sites, but I WANT TO SEE THE FILM!!

And I don't want to wait for it to be out on DVD.

So if you spot a roundish middleaged woman lurking on her own outside a cinema in Leeds wearing a dirty mac, a moustache and sunglasses for disguise this week, it'll be me. Don't worry, I promise not to say hello if I recognise you! :p

Errr Marie about that disguise - ain't you supposed to wear a big pair of pointy ears and hold you hand up, palm outwards with fingers parted between the 2nd and 3rd didgit and say stuff like "live long and prosper" :D

Well I wouldn't want to look silly, would I?????:D:D

Personally, I'm more of a Klingon than a Vulcan, but that's usually only when I'm eating messy food like spagetti bolognese or anything with chopsticks :)

Don't worry about going in on your own to see it, everyones watching the film, which is beyond belief, it is soooooo good. Aside from the Oscarworthy CGI the acting is superb and it's possible to believe that you are watching William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy et al as they were in the original series. I sat in the centre of the cinema when I saw it first and then on the left hand side, it really is impossible to see it all at once, there is just so much happening on the screen at the same time during the battles.

I long ago got over any misgivings I may have had about going to the cinema on my own. I have an Unlimited Card with Cineworld which I absolutely bash, by going at least twice a week, this week it's gonna be Cheri, Angels and Demons and Night at the Museum 2.

So get yourself inside the cinema, you wont see anything outside and I promise you it's a film well worth seeing. :)

DS3 and his friend went to see Star Trek last weekend and said it was good. They went to see Angels and Demons this weekend and enjoyed that too

We're currently looking for baby sitters so we can go take a looksee :) I wasn't holding out a lot of hope based on the last film, but the trailers seem good & various reports are filitering back that it's quite good.

Warning!! If you have seen it & want to discus the plot - pretty please can you start a new thread clearly pointing out there are spoliers for us folks who may take a little more time to get round to it :o

Don't worry Wellie, after the BSG spoilers I promise not to say anything!!

But the story has been on the Trek fan sites for over a year now (it was filmed in 2007) so it's difficult to avoid when you're following them. The last film was with the old TV series Next Generation crew and to be honest, I think they were due to be retired. The new movie is the prequel to the original series and has a whole new generattion of actors. The aim is to re-open the franchise for younger people so hopefully it'll work and we'll get more films and maybe TV series.

I see they've already started flogging the toys

We didn't even see the last film at the Cinema, just got it on DVD.

I'm quite adept at avoiding spoilers for Doctor Who - & considering the list that I'm on with the friends & aquaintances I have, it's quite a feat LOL

I always go to the cinema on my own. I never feel out of place and have never had a problem. Try it and if you feel confortable then you will always be able to see what you want to. I am looking forward to the new Terminator film!!

I personally find going to the pics to see a kids movie movie without kids quite agonising LOL

I would love to see it too, but again no one that will go with me.

Don't know if I am brave enough to go to the cinema on my own

Yep, I think I'm going to take the plunge and go on my own - I'm going one afternoon this week, its on loads of times in central Leeds and at one of those cinemas where you don't have to queue up in the street! But I might still wear the moustache and sunglasses so that I don't look like a nerd

Yes I did omit that I generally will go in the afternoons, I get a bit of shopping and then go on to sit in the dark for a couple of hours.

I got my season ticket when my youngest daughter went to uni, somehow or other until then I always seemed to to tie myself to other people to go and see a film. Over the years I'd come to rely on seeing them on TV or renting/buying DVD and hadn't realised how much I'd missed the big screen.

It did take some thing of leap to first go along on my own, but now I think nothing of it. There is no way I'd give up my season ticket now. Sometimes I will see as many as twelve films in a month which ain't bad for £13.50. Other months, especially through the summer when the kids are the cinemas prime target, my tally can drop but I will always manage at least one movie a week.

Sorry if I've gone on a bit, but this is something I really, really enjoy. :) :) :)

I think it's a great idea Mothership, especially at that price it's fantastic value and you get to see all the new stuff. I'm debating with myself whether to go tomorrow afternoon - I'm out at that end of town in the evening so could go and see the film first.

Anybody know whether its half term in Leeds this week? Or is it next week?

I have never been a star trek fan but I think I could be forced to watch this just to see Zachery Quinto in action:)
