From Crafter's Companion Newsletter:

Every year new trends develop in the world of craft, and this year is no different. With the recession biting hard, we are all looking for more economical ways to craft. This has led to more people trying out craft CDs, which enable you to print off your own backing papers, inserts and more. Crafter's Companion has been at the forefront of CD crafting over the past couple of years, with an extensive range of releases. This is why we are thrilled to be involved in the re-launch of Complete Cardmaking, as it evolves into a magazine dedicated to digital crafting.

You'll find the relaunch issue on the newstand from Thursday 9th July. Be quick though - with a covermounted craft CD, the magazine is set to fly off the shelves! For the first disc, we've provided a selection of papers from the Boys 'n' Girls CD-ROMs, which are supplemented with material in the magazine.

To further support the magazine, we've created six full projects which can be made using the materials on the CD. You'll find these in a dedicated part of the projects section of our web site. Click the link below to access this projects. Also below, you'll find a link to an inspirational online gallery showcasing cards made using the Boys 'n' Girls CD-ROMs.

Ordered it already ! I subscribe to another magazine of theirs and get the other one from Sharon religiously, I've actually got that one issue 2&3 in a bundle as I missed it when available from Sharon.

Good idea for a magazine, I'm sure that there are loads of us with rarely used CDs (not just those from CC) who could use teh inspiration.

I have looked on their website and you can subscribe for 40% less. I think it is about £21 for 6 issues. Sounds better value!

I'll give it a go but where I live there are very few newsagents and none of the big name ones just a couple of very small independant ones, so I don't hold out much hope that they'll have it in, got to go 20 miles to find a decent newsagent.

go and look at some of the digital downoad sites and see what you can get for 6 quid or even better, free. IMO the best two are shabby princess and my personal fave, Scrapgirls

I managed to get this magazine this morning. What I have seen so far I like. For anyone who is interested, the cd with the next issue has Card Creations +, craftsUprint and Joanna Sheen on. it is due out on 3 September.

Got it this morning and my postie didn't push it through the letterbox bless him.

The custom mini viewing browser doesn't work on MAC but I'll run it on Windows 7 virtualised to see if it behaves.

Obviously because they give you a CD something has to give so the magazine that comes with it is only 66 pages compared to other mags that have between 80 to 100 pages.

I'm going to have a look at it and will post how I'm getting on with it.

Well I'm back. In reading the cover quickly I was assuming Crafter's companion was kinda giving us two CD's in their range so we can try the software that comes with (it always looks very user friendly) so I really wanted to see how user friendly it was but it's only a selection of images from two designs CD of theirs: boys and girls. So no way of testing their software as it's not included. To be fair it seems very generous to give us a taster of 124 items from those two kits. I would have liked though to see how their software works, they could have included it whereas you were limited to print from it either in quantity or maybe time-limited.

And you can access those image files with no problems with a MAC too, just drilling down the folders. When you launch the custom made browser under Windows (Win7 in my case) you get a small pop up window where you can see what's available on the CD. There are two non crafter's companio craft kits that look more my cup of tea: The cherry pie Collection (42 elements) and the Summer Fun (75 elements).

They also added a folder with photo essentials software (Picasa, Gimp, etc...) that are available free on the net to download but practical to have on a CD for those who are on dial-up still.

I haven't printed any of the images yet but might give it a go later on some whisper white paper to check how they print out using Picasa and Timelifez (a digital scrapbook software).

I have been having a play with this and found that you can use the Summer fun and Cherry Pie in MCS. I have imported them into my MCS downloaded artwork folder. Much easier and quicker to use than running from the cd. I really like the summer fun designs. ( I didn't try to import the CC designs as I already have the CDs, but I would imagine you could put those in too).
