I'm on holiday in Florida at the moment and have just come back from shopping at Michaels the craft store. I went to have a look at the cricut cartridges as they are $99 in Jo Ann craft store and $89 in Michaels so thats £45. Anyway, I picked up the 'All Dressed Up' cartridge and noticed a sign - all cricut cartridges were $40 - thats £20!!.........each!! So I bought 4 - well I had to at that price. I also bought a 12 x 12 dcwv pet stack paper pad for $9.99 - thats £5?! All the dcwv pads were that price, I may have to pay another visit because I can't bear not taking advantage of these prices. I just had to come on here and tell you about it as no one in the family understands why I am so shocked............but very happy!

How lovely for you. The exchange rate is particularly good at the moment for the dollar, shame the same cannot be said of the euro.
Oh, what a lovely surprise for you Ribbons. BTW, whilst you are out there, look out for the gorgeous ribbons by Midori, I regularly lust over their website and something tells me you'd be partial to them too!

Well done, Ribbons :D
It makes me mad the way we're ripped off in Britain, but congratulations on your bargains Ribbons. Careful you don't get done for excess baggage on the way home. Enjoy the rest of your hols. xx

Nothing surprising about those prices ribbons, it seems to me that most American craft products are sold in the UK for exactly the same "price"...... well by that I mean the NUMBER......not the currency ..... they take the American dollar price and simply change it to pounds..... so a $50 item in the USA will cost £50 here despite the fact that means we are in effect paying double!! And that is why so many of us are getting totally excited about the changes to the thresholds where duty becomes payable later on this year - some huge savings can be made after December and no duty to pay on the goodies :D

Thats good news, I didn't know that, it should make a bit of a difference, but it seems generally everything is cheaper here. I was in 'Target' and found they were selling Boots make up - I bought some No 7 mascara $7.99 so thats about £4! Excess baggage shouldn't be a problem as we've got plenty of cases - I keep getting drawn back to the craft shops though and saw a lovely bag to put my cricut in.................... I could use that as my hand luggage! Oh yes, the sunshine is good too. :D

You will have to tell me all the best places to go once you get back as I am in the process of booking a trip to Florida in October 09. Just hope the pound stays as strong against the dollar

Yes, I would love to - its just a shame we all can't be here, I think about everyone on the forum when I'm in the craft stores, I've taken some photos just to prove I'm not making up the prices.

You don't need to take any photos of the prices...... we can all just browse the internet and see them for ourselves, so nobody here disbeleives you. I rather suspect most of us already knew how much cheaper crafty stash is in the USA! Better to concentrate on calculating how much you can stuff in your suitcases without ending up paying excess baggage charges.... have fun shopping..... I am looking forward to hear about all your bargains when you get home. :D

Just an update on my craft shopping spree, I went into Michaels yesterday and the $40 deal for cricut cartridges has finished and they are back up to $89-99 dollars each again, also the dcwv pads which were $9.99 are now back up to $19.99, all sales offers are over now so I was really lucky to be in there are the right time. I had stopped craft buying until I went into the 'dollar store' yesterdat, much to my family's disgust, and found a pack of 10 page inserts for scrapbooks for $1, also glue tape pens at $1 each, okay they are probably not the best quality but at that price about 50p each its worth a try.

I think I'm glad I wasn't crafting when we went to Florida - hubby may have had a fit LOL How much will your excess baggage charge be Ribbons LOL Most other peeps I know who've been to the US come back with excess baggage due to clothes shopping - but not crafters LOL

I'm ok re the excess baggage as me and OH can have three bags each and the kids can have 2 each. We are driving to Miami later today so the only challenge will be getting it all in the people carrier we have hired, but I don't mind I will drive with my legs in the air if necessary! Just read the above, it sounds as though I've got loads of craft stuff, I actually haven't, most is stickers and embellishments so they are fairly flat, plus a couple of 12 x 12 pads and they don't take up much room, just the cricut cartridges are bulky but they are easy enough to slot in somewhere.

EEeek ribbons, it sounds like you have been quite restrained in you buying.... if it had been me I would probably have been trying to cram half the contents of the shop into my cases ;)
