I made these bracelets for my Sis and my Niece to match some beautiful dichroic glass pendants I bought them each. (forgot to take pics of the pendants, duh).

Anyhow the three on the right hand side as you look at it (the ones with no orange in them) were to match my Sis's pendant. I was particularly proud of the third in from the right as the hibiscus type flower matched almost perfectly the flower engraved on top of her gorgeous blue/green pendant.

Being a smart ar** I wrapped the pendant in it's presentation box and then looped the bracelets around the outside of the box, fastening two immediately above it, and one in the opposite direction around the first two and the box itself, then I placed them in one of those gift baggy things. If you can picture it, the box is now encased in the looped and fastened bracelets.

Sooooooooooooo on my birthday Sis comes to call with flowers and cards etc. and I ask her 'did the bracelets fit okay'?

'What bracelets' says she............. 'the bracelets in with your pendant' I replied. 'I didn't get any bracelets' she answers. 'You did' I assured her 'they were wrapped around the box that the pendant was in'.............. at this point I can see a light coming on in my Niece's eyes (I had wrapped hers the same way), 'Yes you did Mother, I got some as well'

'Oh they were bracelets were they' my Sis finally says.

So I asked her did she throw them out with the wrapping paper? Did she think I had wrapped her pendant in leather like wrapping? Oh no she answered they were at home.

So after she had gone home I phoned her and she was busy getting the dinner.

'Did you fish my bracelets out the trash yet'?

'No, I haven't had time I am busy fixing dinner'.

So clearly I have seen the last of those bracelets............. she has obviously thrown them out and was not even prepared to have a look for them in the rubbish........I at least would have tried, presuming they were not in with nasties like potatoe peelings or partially used cooked food.

The moral of the story girls........... don't be a smart ar** and use your bracelets as a form of wrapping, cos clearly it's not obvious what they are.

I am half amused and half hurt. I spent quite a few hours making all those bracelets.

I am not even sure my Niece still has hers either as clearly she only realised they were bracelets when I said they were wrapped around the pendant box, and hers toned in with her pendant as well which had streaks of orange in it.

The one on the far left, my DD got, and the one below my friend got, so at least those didn't get binned........... or at least not by accident!

By the way I am not a total idiot. They did have the hole punched in them to fasten them, just not when I took the pictures.

I think they are lovely LoobyLou.
I would have kept them anyway regardless of if I'd realised they were bracelets.
My bin has been searched through more than once by me. One Christmas I threw 2 £5 notes away, luckily I realised before the bins were collected.

That's a shame Looby, they're lovely. I assume your sister is not a crafter.

Looby my jaw dropped reading your posting. All that work and the bracelets are just SO gorgeous. Obviously your sister is not a crafter or particularly arty? or she would have realised straight away they were something special even if intially not realising they were braclets! What a shame!
I do scrapbooking for friends as a gift if they have a baby. I go, take photo's and make albums up. It takes a LOT of money and huge amount of time. I know they love them when they are presented to them but they don't fully appreciate the amount of time it takes putting the whole thing together from just sourcing all the items to putting them together. I'm not complaining but they just don't realise, as I say the time, and effort that goes into these generous gifts.

Jan, I am glad I am not the only bin shifter. I confess to having gone through some quite hideous stuff looking for things I accidentally threw away. Isn't that what they invented soap and water for? I wouldn't expect her to trawl through nasties though, but I am pretty sure she didn't even try to look.

Thank you. I can't understand why she didn't at least realise they were something other than wrapping as they had the hitch fasteners in and were indeed wrapped round like a ruddy bracelet. Or why she didn't ask me either.

Nope.

I know, she didn't even appear to notice that one bracelet (or rubbish as she thought it was) actually matched the pendant inside the box almost perfectly, nor the fact that they felt like leather. Strange.

Thank you.

I am trying to be blase about it, but the more I think about it, the more annoyed I am getting. I really did put days of work into them and you should have seen the bomb site that was pretending to be a craft area whilst I did it. Not to mention that I used ooodles of Cosmic Shimmers and H2Os, plus Tim Holtz acrylics and posh impressions inks. I even paid out for a bottle of 3D Crystal Laquer, as recommended by Sheena, to make them water resistant.

I haven't bothered to post them cos I made 57. But I made Sis a box of cards as a present as well. She often asks me for a card if she hasn't been able to get to the shops or is short of dosh so I thought I would give her her own stash to choose from.

On my b'day she had been poorly the week before and either couldn't find the card she bought or hadn't had a chance to get to the shops (to be honest I wasn't paying complete attention as I was reeling from the shock of her throwing away my present at this stage), but was asking her OH to drive her into town to get me a card. He said to her 'You've got a whole box full of bloody cards there, why do you need to go buy one?'. He didn't seem to get the drift that she could hardly give me back one of my own cards as my B'day card! MEN!!! LOL
