Would someone please remind me again why I bother with IW? I ordered the Moissanite ring POTW back in August, the stone was yellow when it arrived so I returned it special delivery (after they refused to pay for return postage - I can claim it back if I write to them - lucky me!). They received it on the 26th August and I STILL don't have a refund. I've checked on the website and it's showing that they have sent another with tomorrow as the expected delivery date (I asked for a refund) so I phoned CS and got a line that my card was refunded on Sept 4th and takes 5-7 working days to show on my card (how convenient!). Well we'll see won't we! One thing I'm sure of, if they've sent me another I'm not returning it, they can come and collect it (I should've done this in the first place as it's legal under distance selling regs for faulty items) and I'll get the refund through my credit card!
I've had it with them! And just as they've been getting a few craft orders from me too.

Sadly I have to side with IW on the refund thingy :o - when I had to do CC refunds we had to advise the customer it could take 3-7 working days (IIRC) before they would see the money in their account. I have no idea why this is - when you debit the card it's essentially immediate, but refunds take days to go through the banking system after they're processed.

I find refunds to credit cards a bit hit and miss, I returned an item to Tesco and it ook 5 days to go on my card, yet my return to wilkensons was there the same evening.

WikiAnswers is a wiki, hence the name "WikiAnswers"
So what is a wiki ?
Well here is one definition : http://wiki.org/wiki.cgi?WhatIsWiki
however as that is also a wiki it may not be reliable.
Basically a wiki is a web site where anyone and I do mean ANYONE can contribute, edit, alter and add to the material it contains. I have written items for a wiki, edited and updated them too in my time. Used wisely wikis can be a useful tool, but bear in mind the information they contain may not be accurate. A good thought to bear in mind when you go hunting for information online at anytime IMO because there IS a lot of garbage out there.
ROC, your link probably contains an answer written by an American, and therefore even if accurate, is only accurate in terms of how it pertains to American laws for how credit card companies manage funds.
As for why OUR money takes goes into limbo, well in the UK I suspect it has more to do with various financial institutions making money from our money while they have it "on paper" but not yet recorded as being paid into our accounts. Why do you think it takes 3 to 5 working days to clear a cheque - this is the age of almost intant electronic data transfer....do you really think it needs that long for the clearing banks to move the funds ;)

I had a major problem with IW 2 or 3 years ago, basically they took my money and then sent a letter to tell me they could not supply part of the order, even though they were still showing the item on air and it was showing as in stock on the website. I emailed them and surprise, surprise they actually phoned me and told me the money would be back in my account in 7-10 days, I didn't think this was good enough and told them so, I informed them that as they were actually still showing the item and it was in stock on their website (when I ordered it was free postage) that by taking my money and not sending me the goods, they had taken my money under false pretences and I wanted it returned immediately, amazingly they refunded to my account the same day, so they can do it if they really want to or have to.

I understand it can take a while to turn up to the card but why did it take them 10 days to send the refund in the first place? And isn't it convenient how it was always done just enough days ago that you can't say anything?
Anyway, my main concern is they're going to send me a replacement I don't want and I'll have to go through the whole thing again.
