I recently bought the Spellbinders classic frame die because I loved the intricacy at the top and bottom of the die and have seen it used beautifully on blogland However now that I have it I can only manage to get embossing at the top and bottom and not cut out detail as I thought it would be So am I doing something wrong or does this die not cut out the detail at the two ends only emboss it I have attached a picture from Mags wonderful blog Magslittlethings that shows how she has used the frame and it appears cut out to me but maybe Im wrong (Ive tried emailing her but I dont speak French and her Engish is not great so perhaps she did not know what I was asking as I did not get a reply)http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x256/sugarplum-fi/Sweet_Pea_DT16_M.jpg Help

Peering at the spellbinders website it appears to me the edge of the frame is cut in all its glory and the pattern bits at the ends are embossed. In the pic you posted they are embossed not cut assuming we mean the same thing in my case the pale shapes within the purple frame at the ends. Hth and that I'm even half right.

If it has raised areas they will cut, just holes emboss.

Which machine are you using? If it is a cuttlebug, it might be worthwhile turning the die so the intricate bits are at the edges, as the bug seems to cut better there. Use and A, C, die, card and B plate for the sandwich. Try putting it through more than once if it doesn't cut the first time.

Im using a wizard
Do you think she has inked through the die once cut to highlight the embossed areas making them a different colour? (which I was thinking was a different coloured card underneath) Off to have a try

Ok I am (yet again) officially a doughnut! Just tried putting the cut frame back in the die and rubbing a chalk ink over the holes. Result ,exactly the look I was trying to acheive withut any cutting required. Im off to find the pointy hat with the big D on the front and a suitable corner to sit in. Sorry folks

aawww SP come out of the corner, you'll get cold! :mysmilie_501:
Glad you've sorted yourself out, I always find it difficult trying to work out which bits do what!
This is quite a clear picture of what it does too:

- it looks really nice, might have to add it to 'the list' :dull: oh dear!

You're not alone in wearing a hat with a big D on it SP. I did the same with some spellbinders dies that cut little flowers. I thought from their pics that they were quite intricate lacey cut flowers, but they are the same as your die above, Cuts the outside, colour the bits in the middle!
I was hugely disappointed with mine cos it was not what I was after. Spellbinders don't make it too obvious what their dies do either on their website or their packaging.

Can you trim the motif to separate the petals into something lacier or less clunky?

No vampy, sadly, they are a set of six little flowers and it would be too fiddly to work my way inside them. Only used them once as I disliked intensely the end result. There was a waste of £15!

That's a shame Looby, crafty stuff is not cheap and it is very disappointing when something is a let down.

Sure is Vampy. But I can forgive spellbinders as they make the luscious nesties, and what's not to love about nesties.
