View Full Version : Look what I made!
I know that strictly speaking this should be in the gallery or the one I made earlier sections, but I wanted to christen the Parchment Craft section! I went to a parchment class at the shop yesterday, and this is what I created.
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/9462/img0207kj6.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/img0207kj6.jpg/1/w640.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img222/img0207kj6.jpg/1/)
Some of the ink work doesn't stand up to close inspection, but I'm really quite chuffed as it's the first time I've ever done any parchment craft.
BTW if anyone knows how I can get rid of the "free image hosting at imageshack" bit I'd be very grateful. I've used imageshack for years and this has only started appearing in the last couple of weeks.

WOW Anne! If that's your first attempt at parchment it's absolutely amazing!!
Well done to you, are you going to carry on doing parchment now? It would be a shame not to as you're obviously very good at it.

Thats stunning Anne, very well done, did it take very long?
I still remember Tess and her beautiful parchment cards, how she managed to give them away i dont know, they must have taken her hours!
Thank you for your kind comments ladies.
PP - I will do it again, possibly another class which would be a different project. I might ask for a kit for Christmas.
RW - 3 hours! Tracing the image in the first instance is time-consuming, and then you have to do the embossing which is different to embossing with a stencil as the parchment needs to be warmed first before you apply pressure so it's quite a slow process.

Just as i thought Anne, so time consuming, the result is fabulous, but will you be able to part with it?? :D

*Applause* Anne that is beautiful :) And in only 3 hours? Christine Coleman seems to make it sound as if it should take weeks to produce something that detailed.
You know how usually a photograph of a card doesn't do it justice? Well, in this case it has deffo enhanced my work. And I'm not just being modest! :D But I do thank you all for your kind words.

This first card was obviously just getting us used to the basic techniques. There were two of us newbies in the class and the other four were regulars - they were making a six-tier Christmas tree.
I got the impression that our teacher doesn't think particularly highly of Christine Coleman.

I have to admit to never having watched Christine Coleman or having seen any of her work - I just know of her and that she does parchment craft. Our teacher didn't say anything derogatory regarding her work at all, it was more the look on her face and the "hmmmm" on the couple of occasions that CC was mentioned. Maybe I read it wrong, but that's the impression I got.

That's stunning, especially as it is your first attempt at Parchemnt Craft. I must admit I find watching Christine Coleman on C&C very addictive, but I just don't have the patience for the time needed to do PC.

I think I have the patience, but it takes so long that I'd be fed up of doing the same technique/project. I can't begin to imagine how CC apparently just does parchment craft all the time - it'd drive me potty.

Anne, that really is beautiful! You must be so proud. I know I would be!
I think three hours is quick to produce something so lovely & professional looking, especially for your first one. (When I think of how long it takes me to make a card, largely because of all the "faff time" looking for exactly the piece of paper I want or comparing 6 different almost identical embellishments...) I hope you manage to convince people to buy some nice parchment craft supplies for Christmas.:)

Thank you CB. Oh gawd though, don't talk to me about faff time - I am the Queen of Faff. That's the thing about going to a class though - you're told what to do and there's no time for faffing. :)

Well done Anne, on your first project. It's really pretty.
If your able to get to Ringwood, Hampshire at the end of October/early November, there is a yearly Parchment Show/Craft Show held in the Sports Centre.

If you look in the snippet of code you've used you'll be able to see the portion that mention the website and can safely remove it. Apart from the final tag. Just PM the code and I'll isolate it for you so you can use that as a template for your next post.

Thank you for the suggestion Serena. The main reason I did the two parchment classes was to get a basic understanding of the craft, as I work in a craft shop and we sell lots of Pergamano stuff!

:)Well Anne,
Just to add to everyone else and tell you.......i think for a first time of parchment, you've done bliddy brilliant:D I've done a couple of pieces of parchment before and gave them to my mum as a pressie, and yes!!!! they were very hard to part with:pit's always hard to part with your first piece, i was the same with my first medallion card, cause it took me so flaming long!!!:Danyway, good luck to yer and i hope you are enjoying it, it is time consuming but well worth it when you see what you can do!! Talking about CColeman, i liked her and have some of her dvd's but she is very regimental, reminded me a bit of an old school mistress, i do prefer Pauline Loweth, she seems to explain things easier!!

I only work there two half days a week, so it's not something I do to make a contribution to the household budget or anything like that. And yes, there have been times when I've gone home with more goodies than cash. But I am SO lucky to work in this particular craft shop. The shop owner is only a year older than me and we get on so well, and I absolutely love working there. :)

I know this is an older thread as i posted on it myself, praising lovely Anne's beautiful card, however i have only just seen your post Serena and just wanted to thankyou for the link, this looks a great site and i never knew it existed before, so thankyou for that, off to have a shufty at it, its added to my favs now
I guess i must just be lazy as i bought a bold gauge grid, and some tools and still havent got past a couple of basic embossing projects that i gave to my loving mum, for her birthday a couple of years ago........i really should do some parching, i bought the CC lace and gridwork dvd a few months ago and still havent watched it yet, lazy sod!!! lol, although the RA and ME make me quite ill everyday, so i have to be in the right mood, and not in pain, yeah right!!! stuck in bed most days
well, c'mon Anne we're waiting for the next masterpiece!!! LOL
well, c'mon Anne we're waiting for the next masterpiece!!! LOL
Haha! :)
I've not done any more and probably won't either. I only did two cards and both were done at classes in the shop I work in. I did it just to find out what parchment craft was all about, so I could help customers really. It's a very time-consuming craft, and as one of the world' slowest crafters, I daren't take this up. :)

Aww such a shame cause you are good at it, but i know what you mean about time consuming, ive just started my first one and it is taking quite a while as i suffer with RA, and it hurts after 30mins, so what i've decided to do is do a little bit at a time and then put it to oneside, and then do some more another day, good job it isnt for anyone in particular!!! hahahaha, they would get it on their 'next' birthday and not this one hehehehe..........well, at least you can say you've had a go

It's really lovely. The last workshop I attended we would have made 4 cards in that time! :p
To me card-making is relaxing but I'm not sure I would have the patience to do parchment but I do agree that Christine Coleman makes it sound as if you would spend a month on a card.
Well done and it's something to be proud of.
