What are your favourite TV shows, past or present and why? Mine are in order of preference:
1. Lost (fantastic, completely addictive series, best TV ever made in my opinion anyway!)
2. Sherlock Holmes (the Jeremy Brett version; I've just got these on DVD and am watching them now,
fantastic acting).
3. The House of Elliot (I love fashion and the 1920s, need I say more!)
4. Dr Who (I'm referring to the more recent series; I also like Torchwood - both seem to very popular here)
5. Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version with Colin Firth !)
I have all of the above on DVD and watch them again and again. DVDs are my only vice, next to crafting of course!

I would have to say (in order of preference, sort of):
1. Desperate Housewives - I can't help it, I'm totally & utterly addicted to it......! lol One of the wittiest & most addictive TV shows ever I reckon!
2. Supernatural - especially the first 3 series, love everything about it, it's scary enough to be, well, scary (lol), the Chevy Impala is just beyond cool & who could ever tire of looking at the gorgeous Jensen Ackles......? (It's stoopid but I like it! lol)
3. Lost In Austen - a kind of fantasy adaptation of Pride & Prejudice - brilliant cast & you couldn't help but really take to the main characters & fervently hope there would, against all odds, be an ultimately happy ending......! lol
4. Murder One - superb series, Daniel Benzali was just brilliant, the whole cast were actually, kept you guessing right 'til the end, one of the best TV shows ever made I think!
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - OK, this was even stoopider than my no. 1 but I don't care how stooopid it was, I have to be truthful.....I loved it, though the final ending was admittedly one of the worst endings ever......! lol
Blimey, for a smart person, I have really dumbed down TV viewing tastes, don't I.......? :giggle:

My favourites are
1st A Touch of Frost ( David Jason is just fantastic in this)
2nd Taggart (Love the fact that you dont know who commited the crime till the end)
3rd Stargate ( I love Richard Dean Anderson)
4th Two and a half men (Just funny)
5th Big Brother ( Yes I know sad watching people sitting in a house but I do watch it.)

Ally McBeal - Fabulously quirky, I particularly liked the series where John and Richard were dating Ling and Nelle. And I just lurve Barry White.
You've Been Framed - I usually have tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks when this is on.
Ashes to Ashes - I loved this programme on so many levels. During the third series I was amazed how much I cared about fictional characters.
Fawlty Towers - I do like a good laugh, and even though I've seen them all loads of times and know exactly what is coming next, it's still hilarious.
Dallas - I adored this show when I was younger and I wanted to be Pamela Barnes-Ewing. Not because she was married to Patrick Duffy but because I thought she was so beautiful. I used to do my hair like hers.
So there you go. :)

I love BB too and have watched all the series, including Celebrity BB. I decided not to include any reality tv in my list because I also love The Apprentice, SCD, and I'm A Celeb. :)

Kitten-with-claws when I was at university one of the professors who taught me who was so clever he was bordering on the eccentric used to be the biggest Buffy fan I know, so smart people do like Buffy. Don't put yourself down. I've never watched an episode, so I'm probably missing out on something great.
I also really like Lost in Austen. I thought it was a really clever concept when I watched it that worked. Of course, I have that one on DVD as well!

Only 5?
Desperate Housewives.
Shameless
Dr Who, especially the David Tennant ones.
Sherlock Holmes. Jeremy Brett by far the best but the new "sherlock" series looks to be fun too.
Have I got news for you.
Lots of others, can we choose our fav. 50 please!

I steered away from this thread cos I just can't narrow it down LOL
There's one obvious one. Which I won't bother to bore you with tee hee. Love it all from the start. Did you know that it's 50yrs young in 2013!
But I used to be partial to Stargate - but with the original cast, I lost interest when half the cast of Farscape joined. Which is odd considering I always enjoyed Farscape :cheeky:
Like a bit of the 'ol Trek, in most versions of the cash cow - the latest film was great too.
Never miss The Apprentice - just about the only reality show I regularly watch.
Kitten absolutely nowt wrong with a bit of Buffy

The IT Crowd....especially the one where 'Roy' pretends to be disabled so he can use the disabled toilet at the theatre......I actually broke my rib laughing at the chain of disastrous events he caused by doing this.......if you haven't seen it and have a quirky sense of humour, watch it. Also I have ALL the Buffy seasons on disc, and have been to the conventions and have autographs on my Buffy Mags. collection......and I am sixty this year, also love Stargate,Startrek, Battlestar Gallactica, remember the very first Coronation Street episode as it was also the night my wee budgie of thirteen years died..sigh...and have watched every episode, barring holidays, since.

I think it is hard to list my top 5 of all time, cos my tastes have changed so much over the years. Some of the programmes that I used to think were great, make me cringe now when I see them! Some of my favourites at the moment though are Crimial Minds, Monkey Life, Dancing on Ice, Law and Order, CSI and I'm a Celebrity (depending on who is on it!). I haven't included craft, even though I probably spend more time watching craft than anything else. Also like to watch documentaries, wildlife programmes etc.

1) Friends! Still makes me laugh out loud
2) Sex and the City
3) Lie to me
4) Criminal Minds
5) Greys Anatomy
There's loads of others of course, all US it seems.
Whoever mentioned murder one - I loved that!
There was a series called Justice that was a victim of the writers strike the I loved so much - gutted it got the axe.
Series 1 of Heroes (doesn't make it onto the list because on the first series was any good)
ER, CSI, 4400, Star Trek TNG (ooer Jean-Luc!), Eureka (anyone seeing a crime/sci-fi theme here?), Brothers and sisters, Dawsons Creek (showing my age?)
Ooh - not US - Neighbours (I still watch it every day, sky+)

Budgie, I also love wildlife documentaries. I love watching Spring/Autumn Watch, it was even better with Bill Oddie. I hope he gets better soon and returns.
I forgot about comedies - my favourites here must be Blackadder (especially Goes Forth), Fawlty Towers, and Only Fools and Horses (but not the most recent episodes which were a waste of time and a disappointment). I also like the US series Seinfeld, my partner got me hooked on this when he got all the series on DVD.

My top 5 would be
Stargate SG1 - have always loved sci fi and with an added bonus with Richard Dean Anderson
Criminal Minds - This programme is a must, so I am trying to get them all onto dvd
Ghost Hunters - Done a little Ghosthunting myself and loved it, these guys show how they love doing their job and also not afraid to show people trying to trick them
Dr Who - have watched this since the first episode with Bill Hartnell and still enjoy it (although was not very impressed with chris ecclestone)
Ashes to Ashes - never missed an episode and would love to see it repeated.

Oh yes I remebered ghost hunters the other day. I like that show too.Alaso Ghost Adventures especially the lovely Zak!
Have started recording stuff off the Bio channel on Thursdays. They have what the calle psychic Thursday. Some interesting stuff on there too.
I think criminal minds is the best of it's type of show. Each episode is so gripping and different.
I also like Dexter and used to like six feet under also with Michael c Hall.
As I said before, there's loads I have enjoyed over the years and currently.
I used to love watching the weather when I was much younger. Now it is wrong so often it feels like watching fiction LOL. However it is now chucking it down as forcast. Just a few hours later than they said.

I also like programmes about the emergency services and various documentaries.
Depends what wildlife programmes are about. I can't watch animals hunting and eating other animals. Or things where people are doing bad things to them.
