View Full Version : Cross stitch or Card making?
I notice there haven't been any threads about cross stitch for a while (threads? LOL ). I used to do this before card making took over, and am tempted to start again. I love all of the lions and tigers (yes, I have to admit to a bit of a zebra themed decor!!!) but get so bored if all of the colours are the same. Maybe I could do one for my brothers new twins bedroom? Hmmm.... Anyone seen any good ones lately? I'd need a whole kit as I think I threw away (gasp) my threads etc......

I used to do alot of crossstitch year ag. I was ill for quite a long period and someone bought me a cross stitch kit while I was in hospital which got me hooked Unfortunately it payed havok with my eyesight as I often sat up till 2 or 3 in the morning "just to finish this wee bit" I dont think I could manage to see it now without going crosseyed!

I bought my first cross-stitch kit just before I got the ME, and it saved my sanity, (most ME'er's can't just sit and do nothing) on a good day I just naturally did more than on a bad day, and I have something to show for those days :D
I stopped when I ran out of walls, and 2 yrs ago my best mate's dad who was my framer died, but I still have books of patterns and I have 1 of every anchor thread; rosie how could you bare to throw your threads away :drunk:
It also easier to share the card making

Cross-stitch resulted in me wearing glasses. Have I stopped? Have I heck! I'm just busy sorting out my stash of fabric, threads, beads, half-finished kits etc ready for the new year when I'm going to really blitz the half-done crafts. I tend to stitch in the lighter nights and knit/crochet in the darker nights. And before you all jump up and down - I am NOT buying one of Martyn's flipping Ottlites!
Rosy - have you looked on Websites such as Wimblebees or even Time to Sew?

How about a sampler for the twins, Rosy? Sew and Sew (http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cat2.html) is a very good site for needlework kits :)
I did do some cross stitch & still have loads of books & thread. I prefer tapestry though, which is easier on the eyes, although it can lead to an excess of cushions :giggle:
I have lots of tapestry kits still to do in their boxes / bags, but for the last 8 years I've been working on and off (mostly off, admittedly  ) on this (http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&do=search_results&Prod_Code=2120&ww=1) - which actually is cross stitch. It's on a printed background though which I prefer, I didn't like the counting aspect about cross stitch - too easy for me to make a boo boo!

Well I know Pam does a lot Rosy, some of her works of art have been on show recently. I was a serious cross stitch addict before card making and funnily enough this year got all my gear out of the loft and I've started work on a doll's house (if you look at the post in the thread there is a link to it and the on-line shop I got it from it great). Think it was this http://www.sewandso.co.uk/

If you holiday in the USor know anyone who does, threads, linen, EVERYTHING is much much cheaper over there
I saw the dolls House!!! I have one on the wall which mum stitched for me, so would quite fancy doing another if I found one to compliment it.
Wins - I prefer counted cross stitch (funny, me being an accountant!!!)

I've bought a lot of kits over the years - often from abroad. I've still got 4 tapestry views of Sorrento to do (actually bought in Sorrento), and quite a few cross-stitch kits from Ostend (from Veritas and t'Vingerhoede - the Thimble), and one I bought in Yugoslavia when it was Yugoslavia. I've done quite a few cushions in the large count size with wool that I bought in Sorrento. I was always looking for cross-stitch and craft shops when I was abroad.

Why have I not noticed this thread until now? Wow that doll's house kit. As I said on another thread (pun intended) I really must finish some of the stuff I've got though.
Still haven't found one that grabs me, anyone got any suggested sites? It needs to be 12 or 14 count - I love the look of the teeny stitched ones but haven't got the patience for them!!!!

Has this site been mentioned?

I've got a couple of their keyring kits. They do a lovely range of cats and I've treated myself to a red tabby and a tortoiseshell. Guess what type my two darlings are?

Have you looked under John Clayton and Heritage Crafts. Lanarte had some but they were sooooooooooo expensive, based on fairy tales. Have a look under Pako - they're usually reasonably priced and come with the threads presorted.
Pako - ah yes £90 for Costume through the Ages. And must look up the one of the last supper. Did one of 2 Ruebens cherubs - quite appropriate for twins!
