View Full Version : Jolly Nation - Love it or Hate it?
As someone commented earlier that this range was rather like Marmite, I thought I'd find out where we all stand with it. :)

I'm kinda neutral - I don't love it, but I wouldn't say I hate it either & have been known to buy some on an odd occasion, but only when the character has matched the recipient, which as far as my family & friends go, they mostly don't,,,
I've put hate because I hate the people ones. I do quite like the animal ones though.

I love it, love cutting it out! Some designs aren't for me though...not keen on the dogs.

How can you hate designs on pieces of paper?
I can understand Le Suh teenagers and My Craft Room designs though...have to agree that some of the dogs can look odd with Jollynation..

Really don't like it, more an Anna Griffin or Tim Holtz kind of crafter and decoupage has never been my thing.
In saying all that though, I have seen some really likeable cards made with paper nation stuff.
Great that crafters are all different, it would be a less colourful world if we all liked the same things.
P.S. Luuuurrrve Marmite.

I voted Love It, though that's probably a bit strong - I am more a 'I quite like it', though I am starting to get a bit bored of it.
I voted 'not fussed either way'! I like the look of some of the characters, but not enough to make me want to buy them. I don't do decoupage because I don't like cutting out, although I see today's ones are die cuts - but I still don't want them enough to buy them!! :)

OK ROC, are you sitting down...... I voted for Love it. To be fair I would not normally be as strongly in favour of Jolly Nation, I am more in the "quite like it" category, but as there was no options other than strong like or dislike or the neutral I went for the love it option.
I find the characters quite appealing, and for me they do seem to illustrate real people living real lives.

I quite like it. Just ordered some single sheets really cheap off a site that appears to be closing down.

I voted hate because I am not keen on cartoony type things and I don't know anyone to send the stuff to.

I think you are right Phree, there is nothing else like them - and I just look at the biker and the lady in the bath and think I know people who will love these - of all the cards I give to my friends and family these are loved the most because they are personal. Also most people are not crafters and are amazed at the designs as shops don't sell cards like these.
Crafters may see them as simple, but my old neighbour who plays bowls isn't bothered about techniques - for his 80th I gave him the elderly bowler man card - and he and the whole party just loved it. My Dad got the cricketer for his 70th - and he loved that too. My best friend had lady in bath, my work colleague had football mad sofa bloke - they all loved them.

I have used them from time to time but only if the subject matched the recipient, but buying a whole kit would be too much - in my life I know a lot of people but don't know any dancers, fishermen, horseriders, ballerinas or motorcyclists to name but a few. The only one I could really use is the graduate girl as my daughter is graduating with her masters in January and that would be great as it looks like her - well it has the same hair lol!
Seems like Jolly Nation doesn't have so much Marmite about it then, looking at the numbers of those who are not fussed. :)
Can't stand Jolly Nation or Marmite myself!

Easy answer ribbons..... put an advert in the local paper....
"new best freind required - must be a dancing, fisherman who rides horses, does ballet and owns at least one motorcycle - in return for freindship you will be sent relevant and appropriate cards on all birthdays and other special events in your life"

I don't usually buy decoupage as I use cds and pics off the net. And make cards from scratch with no pics at all sometimes. But I think the jolly nation can come in handy for a quickish card. But then I still tart them up to make them more interesting:D
The only other ready printed I have bought is the movable decoupage and the 'do you remember when' stuff by La pache. I copy them all onto photo paper to use.
