Have seen it demo'ed many times but it really doesn't appeal to me at all, the finished result by someone who really knows there 'stuff' looks very good though

They used to have it on C&C ages ago. I liked the pictures they showed, but I didn't fancy spending that much money, and then finding I was total carp at it!

Hiya Lee,

I used to do encaustic art about 20 yrs ago. Yikes feeling my age now:smirk:. I got interested after I went to a craft fair and saw some gorgeous examples so I bought the wax sticks, iron and paper and had a go. I found it frustrating, as I would be fairly pleased with my picture and the effects I had achieved then I would add a bit more wax and completely ruin it. It only took one wrong swipe of the iron and that's was it. I don't think I had the patience for it really, I have the same problem with watercolour painting too! I think my problem is I see something arty/crafty and want/expect to be able to achieve the same results straight away, still to damned impatient, :mysmilie_506:when will I ever learn!

I did this about 15 years ago when my Mum first got into crafting and still have the artwork, perhaps I should add some samples of what i made up here? It is tricky to master and I found it a little limiting but with the roller and juicy pad you can get similar results and the details did involve stamps, which is how the first stamp was introduced to the house.

Was going to start a new thread, and then saw this one, yay!
Here is a free e-book (http://www.clothpaperscissors.com/free-encaustic-painting-techniques/?a=cpse110919) to download about encaustic art. It's from Cloth, Paper, Scissors and all you have to do is sign up to their newsletter, which is really cool. It's an American magazine about mixed media art (you can buy it from various places, mostly quilt stores, but I get it from a local-ish newsagent). Lots of ideas.
Anyway, back to the encaustics - it's a bit wild, but might encourage you to have a go if, like Ephemera, one too many strokes messes it up. I think that messing it up is part of the fun in these projects.
Have fun!
