There's a new publication out call the art of knitting, it's one of those binder jobs, but the 1st is proabaly worth it for the wool.

Yeah I'd get the first edition, but having learnt from the Magic of Ctoss Stitch and the Complete Papercrafting I wouldn't attempt to get the full set. I also have the feeling this part work has been released before.

I never run the course either lol, but 99p for needles and wool is a bargain

My thought exactly Angela when I saw the ad tonight ! :)
It would be great just for the wool and needles ! So I've instructed Vince to get me a copy if he sees one in our local newsagent ! :D

I got sucked into one of these (knitting) partworks back in the 80's. Of course they would not tell you how many were in the set so that you would keep on going, thinking that you nearly had the full set. At least you do get a freebie ball of yarn with every issue, although I noticed that you need to get 90 issues to complete the throw (that's 90 x £2.99............!) The 1st issue is a bargain though at 99p.

The Creative papercrafting ran for about 2 years but there were several issues in the middle that never arrived, and some came after later issues. Most of these partworks run for 2 years. BTW if anyone is thinking about those model partworks, the models work out at £600 + glue, paint, varnish etc! Also bear in mind that if the publishing house do not think they are sellig enough they may cease publication before the collection is complete.

Are the needles metal or plastic?
angela

yes I'm 99% sure I read that in the small print, that's what's put me off subscribing

I swore I would never subscribe again to any partwork!
The last time I did, it became a round of phoning re missing copies, copies out of sequence when they 'hadn't arrived from the printer & would follow' some never did, some duplicated, the list once endless. And the volumes kept on coming .......they never tell you at the start just how many..........I had to virtually drag the number from them. Then there are all the binders.....

I picked up a copy tonight for my daughter and she now has completed 1 inch of her first square using the cream ball of wool. I myself knit and taught her some time ago but she hasnt done any knitting since so I thought for 99p it may spark her interest again and it has - well worth it.
By the way, Lidl has some lovely wool in at the moment - went and had a look thanks to a post in another thread. I have been waiting for a supplier to get ruffles yard back in stock which is like the flamanco wool that was on create and craft - that was the one where the scarf knitted looked like rows of ruffles. Anyway, one of the yarns in lidl is the same as this, except the price tag there is £2.99 for 4 50g balls - I think on create and craft it was nearly £20 for the same quantity of wook, a pattern and needles. The colours in my lidl were really lovely so 3 packs came home with me today. Quite a bargain.

I don't think I dare buy this mag - if I come home with any more knitting yarn, OH won't be impressed - he's just put two cardboard boxfuls into the loft and that still leaves two big bagfuls in the craft room. I'm just knitting two cardigans for my niece and nephew - though I am not sure I will get them finished for when we next see them in 2 weeks.

I've been looking for this first issue ever since I first heard about it on TV but have not been able to get it anywhere around here. Oh well, this is a useless place for shopping so I didn't really expect to find a copy.
Also tried to get the Ruffles wool from Lidl in another town but they had none!

I still haven't received my first copy and it will take a few weeks I guess ! :) I need to go online and see if the Direct Debit mandate was set up by them unto my account just to be on the safe side.

Sounds like good value to get some wool & needles to get you started. Unfortunately I've discovered that Amazon has a wonderful selection of knitting and crochet books at very good prices and I'm addicted to them! I've bought about half a dozen over the past few months and have a wish list as long as my arm. I've recently started knitting a lace shawl and I love doing it.
Better do some work to pay for it all!

Is it just me that thinks knitting isn't about ART, it's about making something to wear and keep you warm!
suban

Not neccessarily Blarf. There are home furnishings. I had a lovely picture jumper at one time that I adored. Kept me warm and was a work of art. Was terribly upset when I had to get rid of it - not through choice.

Just noticed that issue 2 of art of Knitting is out in the shops. It includes a ring binder and blue yarn.

Knitting is definitely an ART. Especially if you do fine lace work or make toys etc in the style of Alan Dart and Jean Greenhowe. And how about one of Kaffe Fassett's cushions or quilts? Also some amazing work being turned out with knitted jewellry

I've got two of Kaffe's books - they're gorgeous just to look at, never mind try any of the designs. They're also a treasure chest of information.

I still wear a Kaffe Fassett waistcoat that I made when his first books came out. Alan Dart and Jean Greenhowe models that I've made tend to be Christmas stuff. I've got one little Alan Dart doll, a toddler wearing dungarees and sucking her thumb, that sits on the shelf in my bedroom. Looks really complicated but really it was only a case of concentrating on the pattern. Definitely art though!!!
