What? Is he really not returning
As soon as I heard the news, I thought of you, Welly! Perhaps it'll be Russell Brand, as he appears to be looking for work :)

Funnily enough, they just suggested that on This Morning too :D
Definitely sad news, at least there are a couple of specials to come yet though :)

David Tennant said last night via a TV link to the TV awards that the four specials will be broadcast through 2009 and so we won't get a new doctor till 2010.
Hope it won't be Russell Brand as his replacement, I'd sooner see someone like James Nesbitt as the doctor. The BBC will have to be very careful about who they choose as David Tennant brought a lot of fans back to watching the programme, who could just as easily go away again if they pick a rubbishy actor.

Very sad to see he is going. In my opinion one of the best Doctors ever, and I have watched the series since the series started.:(

What a shame. I didn't think I was going to like him when he first became the Doctor but he has turned out to be one of the best IMO!

Isn't he the most popular DR of recent times I heard the other day? My DS is quite miffed he is leaving!!

Vague possibility considering who's just taken over as show runner (but I hope not). Mr Moffat has not given any hints as yet ;)
There are 5 more hours of DT's timelord - this coming Christmas & a further 4 specials; one over Easter IIRC, the timings for the others have yet to be confirmed, but I assume another Christmas special. Which of course would be 'the' one...

Many different polls have voted DT as all time best Doc - knocking Tom Baker off his pearch...

yes, i love DT as well, he'll be a hard act to follow!
They could bring back Tom Baker. He was hilarious as the host on Have I Got News For You last week.
(not a serious suggestion, btw) :)

Couldn't stand that man when he played Dr Who because I saw him embarass his then wife in the local A&N store, as he was appearing at the Chichester Festival Theatre. A store assistant told "Mr Baker to save his theatrics for the stage" and the audience that had gathered gave her a round of applause.

I think its a shame he's going BUT I think I shall trust their judgement this time. Both previous times I though I was going to hate the Doctors but ended up thinking they were fantastic... same happened with Billy Piper, could believe it when I heard she was going to be in it (in a negative way) but she again turned out fantastic. Call me sexist but I hope it ISN'T Catheryn Tate.... a suggestion om another site was Bill Baily which would certainly be interesting.

I've kinda lost my contact with Mr Moffat - he's having to draw back a bit from fandom while he's running the show :( Still, I know plenty of peeps he goes to the pub with :D Not that he would ever blab about who he'd chosen before the appropriate time - he's always hated spoilers.
I'm trying to have no preconceptions as to who the next Doctor should be. I don't particularly want a woman. I know Mr M a little & I trust him...
