View Full Version : Updated Secret Santa swap - (how it will be run etc)

Hi

As co-ordinator of this swap, I have decided it would make sense to start afresh, cherry picking out all the salient points and removing (I hope) contentious issues.

For the benefit of those that are new to the forum and to remind people of who may have forgotten, what happens is this.

Originally people said lets keep the swap entirely secret and then I got requests for a list of who was taking part, so people could guess who made whose card. Obviously the recipient will know who their card is from but can I ask that you keep their identity a secret from the rest of the forum until the grand reveal.

So, people wanting to take part can either put their names down on the thread or PM me. If you are a regular participant in the swaps, the chances are that I will hold your name and address in any case. On the other hand, if you are new to swapping, you will need to PM me your name and address. I should stress that any addresses I hold will be solely for the purpose of a cardswap and will not be passed onto any other person, without your express permission. At the closing date, I will compile a master list of who is swapping with who and PM you all individually with your swappees name and address.

May sound an obvious thing but can you remind me of any mother/daughter (apart from Rainbowwand and Marzipan)or sister/sister or friend/friend relationships, as it seems daft doing a swap.

When it comes to posting a picture of the card you have received on the forum, can you let me know if your digital camera is playing up and you may find it impossible to post a picture. It might be an idea for all cardmakers to take pictures of their cards, just incase the postie loses them or there is some other unforeseen problem.

Change to original thread, can I ask that if partipicants can possibly manage it, can they post received cards on the forum during the period 10th to 17th December. A week should be ample time to give people the opportunity of guessing that want to.

As it stands I have copied the original thread list and hope everyone who has signed up/PM'd me is on the list, if not please nudge me. There is still time for new people or members still contemplating to join us. I envisage drawing up the list and PMing everyone about a week from today.

Hi Joanne,

I have just tried to send you a PM for you to reply to. The screen tells me that either you have elected not to receive PMs or you aren't allowed to send them yet. Ordinarily if you click on the Private Message button, it will bring up a menu and under the sub heading of private message, the second option is send a new message. If you still can't PM me, we will have to PM Graham and ask him to look at the problem.

Joanne

You could well be right about that Joanne, will PM Graham on your behalf to ask, as it seems a shame for you to miss out. I will also ask him to look at your account settings, I don't know for certain whether he will be able to tell, but you may get a PM from Graham direct.

LorraineJ

Have now PM'd Graham to ask and if its a matter of being right about the number of posts have suggested this is made known on the forum, so we aren't asking him the same question again the future.

Hi Everyone

Me again.

Owing to Craft telly falling over, as posted over on Shopping telly in the interval, the revised time is now going to be up until late Wednesday afternoon to sign up ie the 12th.

For those of you that weren't members last year, the swap was great fun, everyone enjoyed looking at everyone else's card making and its really lovely to receive an extra special handmade card.

As the forum fell over and DH will be home tomorrow, I have decided to make the ultimate cut off time Monday morning. So if you still aren't sure, you have the weekend to think about it. Its lovely getting a card especially crafted, just for you and we will all have great fun guessing the makers, getting them possibly hopelessly wrong.

Hi Everyone,

Just having a breather from the pile of PMs. A question I have been asked is whether or not people should sign their cards. As Christmas is going to be such a busy time, it maybe easier to sign the card. On the other hand, the recipient could guess too, so I leave the decision entirely up to you whether you want the recipient to know who their card is from. One thing though can I please ask, is that you don't come clean and reveal your identity to the forum before 15th December, assuming you start your thread on the 10th, so can we have 5 days between posting and revealing.

Any more questions, please ask.

Hi Sugarplum (and anyone else who is wondering about this)

Ideally all Secret Santa cards should be posted (please take a photo first, so if they go astray, the maker can PM me IMG details of their picture via photobucket or the equivalent, and I can then put a piccie on the forum on the recipient's behalf (sneaky eh)) by 10th December. The swaps should be received so they can go on the forum by the 10th. Recipients will then post threads entitled "Who made me (followed by some witty title)" together with a photograph they have taken of the card they have received. To give people a chance to guess, its planned the piccies be on the forum for 5 days before the grand reveal.

Hope that makes sense

Also can all makers take a photo of the cards before they leave them, just incase for some reason or other the recipient is unable to put a photo on the forum (the most obvious being our trusty postman loses it lol)

I thought you'd said from the 10th Lorraine. Can you confirm please?

Edit: Just found this from Lorraine in the first post of this thread.

"Change to original thread, can I ask that if partipicants can possibly manage it, can they post received cards on the forum during the period 10th to 17th December. A week should be ample time to give people the opportunity of guessing that want to."

Ok this is the final definitive guide and should I hope please everyone. When we have done swaps of this kind before, the general concensus of opinion was, that it was nice if we all had the threads running from the same date and people had a week to guess before the grand reveal. So as Anne has politely extracted what I originally said, that is what we will do.

So the timetable is:

Cards posted so that the recipients can put them on the forum on the 10th.
We can have a week of guessing up until the 17th.
The culprit will admit to making their beautiful creations from the 17th.

As I said before, before you send the card, its a good idea to photograph it, as if for some reason the recipient does not get it for the 10th, I can then post it on their behalf without revealing who did the original making.

I can't find my card, I put a few finishing touches to it a couple of days ago and I can't find it anywhere!!

We are in such a state here, keep moving stuff from room to room (because of the building work) and I really don't know where it is. I'm usually quite good with my card making stuff and have a drawer for finished cards but it's not there! I've checked nearly everywhere els too. I just can't think where it can be.:(
